ARRIVAL INSTRUCTIONS

OBJECTIVES:

Following the success of our high-energy theory workshop series, we're separating the topics closer to relativistic gravity and theoretical cosmology into this new workshop. The division between the two workshops remains somewhat flexible, but will roughly follow the hep-th and gr-qc categories of ArXiv.org. The topical coverage will be broad. Some concrete examples of relevant topics are gravitational instabilities and collapse problems, singularity resolution, canonical approaches to gravity quantization and quantum cosmology, statistics of fluctuations in cosmological spacetimes, primordial black holes, cosmological dynamics of fundamental constants, etc. The talks are expected to be informal and interactive, with a substantial pedagogical component. We strongly encourage blackboard presentations.

The workshop is hosted by the BANGKOK FUNDAMENTAL PHYSICS GROUP.

Other theoretical physics meetings at the same venue in January-February 2024:

6th BANGKOK WORKSHOP ON DISCRETE GEOMETRY, DYNAMICS AND STATISTICS

11th BANGKOK WORKSHOP ON HIGH-ENERGY THEORY

PRE- AND POST-WORKSHOP RESIDENCE PROGRAM:

Participants are invited to remain in residence for informal communication and collaboration during the weeks preceeding (January 15-19) and succeeding (January 29 - February 2) the workshop.

REGISTRATION HAS BEEN CLOSED.

VENUE:

The workshop will be held at the physics department of Chulalongkorn University (commonly abbreviated as "Chula", pronounced choo-lah, with a stressed second syllable), Thailand's leading school in natural science fields centrally located in the modernized Pathumwan district of Bangkok.

PRACTICALITIES:

Citizens of a large number of nations (including EU, US, UK, Canada, Japan, Korea, a number of South-East-Asian countries and Hong Kong passport holders) enjoy visa-free entry to Thailand for up to 30 days. Some others (including India, mainland China and Taiwan passport holders) can obtain a visa-on-arrival at the airport for up to 15 days.

Participants are expected to arrange their own accommodations. Reservations should not be difficult to make via, e.g., booking.com or other similar sites, or by contacting the hotels directly. Being an epicenter of a gigantic tourist industry, Bangkok offers plentiful accommodations at all luxury levels, priced considerably lower than the general international standards. It should not be difficult to find housing within 1km of the workshop location indicated on this map. A neat and clean mid-range (around 1200-1400 baht/night) hotel within walking distance that we can recommend is Patumwan House. Happy 3 Hotel has been preferred by some of our participants as a somewhat more upscale alternative. Another option is this recently open hotel that is even closer to the campus and has received positive feedback. We generally advise against the luxurious corporate highrise hotels, a few of which are located close to the university.

Climatic conditions in Bangkok are advantageous during the season of the workshop (roughly corresponding to a pleasantly warm and sunny summer in temperate countries).
